OLTRE Expedition. Beyond The Edge 2008 - Introducing

What is Oltre?

A focus on environmental issues with a view to promote values and greater ecological awareness will be important throughout the arctic venture. It will be seen by the team as a social responsibility that is essential to environmental protection and in daily life.

Beyond the Edge will leave Milan at the end of November in order to reach the North Cape in Norway the following week. This is where the real expedition will begin its journey to the Bering Strait, which it should reach in March 2009. A total of 45 people will participate in the expedition including researchers, doctors, journalists, photographers, cameramen, drivers and mechanics, who will alternate every month after each of the 12 planned legs.

Adventure lovers everywhere can experince this extraordinary venture thanks to live television broadcasting by RAI Uno, the documentaries that will be shown at the end of the expedition and the website www.oltre.mobi, which will follow the step-by-step progress of the expedition to help viewers share the emotions felt by the participants.

The Beyond the Edge expedition 2008 will represent the Italian state in Russian territory, where most of the journey will take place, and for which the most significant sponsorship was received from Italian governmental institutions including the Italian Senate, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Ministry of Economic Developpment.

The companies involved in the Beyond the Edge expedition can take this opportunity to strengthen commercial relationships with organisations and private businesses in the host country of the expedition. They will benefit from the good reputation of Italian products that has developed in Russia over the years. The Beyond the Edge expedition also aims to facilitate further dialogue between Italy and Russia on multiple levels (economic, poltical, cultural, scientific, and concerning energy and the environment), which both countries have been working on for several years.
